What locations do you travel to?
I am based in Sydney / Eora but frequently travel for business and pleasure so I'm more than happy to shoot Australia wide for a small fee depending on the location. I'm also open to destination weddings (hello Euro Summer!) so don't hesitate to reach out and I'll see what I can do!
Why is Super 8 so expensive?
Super 8 film is a very old form of capturing video…. the camera I use is from the 70s! That’s over 50 years old! One roll of super 8 film costs $60 and captures only 3 minutes of footage. That’s why it gets expensive very fast! There is only one legend (love you Richard!) in Australia who develops, processes and digitises this artform. And he prices accordingly with his expertise.
Not to mention my own rates for filming on the day.. which can be up to 6-8 hours plus travel. And then the countless hours I spend editing after the wedding. So yes this really is the best price I can do. My rate will most likely go up as I gain more experience and invest in more vintage cameras (hello 16mm!) so enjoy my prices while they are low.
Do you have photographer recommendations?
Plenty! Shoot me an email with your location and what vibe you're looking for and I'll send through a list of my favourite photographers to work with!
How much footage do we receive?
My starting package is two rolls of film which is roughly 5-6 minutes. Any additional rolls comes at an extra cost.
Can you record our vows/speeches etc?
Super 8 is a very old form of filming and captures video at 18 frames per second which is slower than the standard 24fps we use nowadays. Without getting too technical, this makes it hard to record and line up audio with Super 8. If you are needing lots of coverage of your day including vows, speeches and so on I would recommend getting a digital videographer as well (I have plenty I can recommend). As you may have noticed when watching Super 8 wedding videos, there is usually no audio... just special and candid moments from your day with music playing over it. I can do a separate audio recording of the vows on request which can be overlayed with your final video.
Can you film at night / in dim lighting?
Unfortunately Super 8 cameras aren't as advanced as digital cameras so filming when it's dark can be challenging. Although there is filmstock designed for low-lighting it can be quite grainy and I can't guarantee a super visible image. This is why Super 8 is best for well-lit rooms or bright outdoor locations as seen in my previous films. Let me know what the lighting and venue conditions are like and I'll see what we can do!
